Our first shoot of 2020 gave us three headlines. New sponsors – Greenfields Guns. New shooting venue – Somerset Shooting Ground. Three equal high guns – Chris Griffin, Martin Reynolds, and Nick Bullen. This certainly is an exciting time for us all at the start of our eighthseason, together with new sponsors & new venues – giving us a different shooting ground to look forward to each month.
Although the weather was sometimes horrendous – the targets and layouts made for a great start to our FITASC season. Set in the grounds of the Glastonbury Festival, our host Robin Heal put on a superb day for us all. With nothing extreme Robin had obviously seen the weather forecast and duly set the course with caution. That said this was a testing day, with everyone having a blip on at least one layout and no doubt the extreme wind and showers would account for the blip. Scores in general were certainly down, proven by the fact that only three guns achieved a score above their FFC.
For the first time at our shoots 3 competitors tied for High Gun on 85 – Chris Griffin, Martin Reynolds & Nick Bullen. Class ‘A’ proved to be a very close contest with John Pool taking the honours on 83 and one target better than both Colin Hanson & Richard Pike. An impressive 82 by Robert Taylor not only won ‘B’ class but also gave him a share of the most improved gun of the day. ‘C’ class winner Bob Maidment did well to maintain his average in the tricky conditions. Meanwhile Rob Fricker comfortably won ‘D’ class as well as sharing the most improved gun of the day.
