February 2018 saw the takeover of Roundwood Shooting School by Andy Shaw, Bob Bailey & Dave Hughes. The hidden but famous shooting ground can certainly be proud of its heritage. Over the years many famous names have shot and competed at the prestigious venue which was originally developed by Charles Church shortly after he purchased the estate. The ground was also used by Beretta to develop and test their shotguns to produce the guns that we all are familiar with today.
After what must have been a difficult time since taking over, the new ground owners have done a remarkable job. Those who know and have enjoyed the ground will certainly appreciate the works that have been done. The ground has now been opened up with vast clearance which has created new areas to enjoy targets and certainly make more of the famous tower.
With some excellent shooting It was great to see new names at the top of the scores list as well as winning all the classes. Sam Sawyer scored an impressive 90 to take high gun and also achieved a straight 25 on the tricky rifle range layout. Class ‘A’ again had a new name with Martin Hill scoring 89, ‘B’ class saw an impressive performance by Alan Bullock 82. Meanwhile ‘C’ class met with honours shared between Jim Boddey & Nicholas Wood scoring 76. A fine battle took place in ‘D’ class between Keith Edwards & Ryan White, both shooting impressively to again achieve a shared score of 67. Both also competing for the most improved award which eventually went to Keith on + 14.
